NOTICE: THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED DUE TO HIGH WATER LEVELS.

The Fairmont Lakes Foundation will host a cleanup of Sisseton Lake from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, August 10th. We will gather at Ward Park and we are calling for volunteers to help.

Anyone interested can help out by walking along the shore, or taking out their kayaks, canoes, boats or even waders. Other volunteers will be there to hand out bags for trash.

People can clean up around any lake, but on Saturday morning the drop-off site will be at Ward Park. The city is donating a big dump truck that will be used for all the junk.

The foundation strives to educate people on their stewardship responsibilities. It’s all about taking pride in the town, asking people to keep their yard clean and to keep junk out of the streets and away from the storm sewers. Whatever is put in the lakes will eventually go out to the Gulf of Mexico.

During previous cleanups around the lakes, a variety of big and bad objects have been pulled out. Hundreds of tires, TV monitors, computers and even a broken paddle boat have been removed.

  1. THE JUNE 8TH LAKES CLEANUP IS ON GEORGE LAKE AND THE NORTH END OF SISSETON, (NOT BUDD LAKE), IF WE HAVE IT. WE ARE GOING TO DISCUSS AT TUESDAY NIGHT’S MEETING ABOUT POSTPONING THE CLEANUP DATE BECAUSE OF THE EXTREMELY HIGH WATER LEVEL.
