Fishing Tournament

In January we held our Ice Fishing Tournament, and we were fortunate to have ice! We had an excellent turnout, and great sponsorship.

14 teams of two participated in Spring Tournament. It was almost as cold as our winter tournament, but there were some impressive fish caught.

Lake Cleanup

This year’s cleanup occurred on Amber Lake. We appreciated the help provided by the Fairmont Fire Department, and the Dive Team boat. The Boat House also provided their work pontoon for our use. You may have also noticed the new stencil paintings near many of our storm drains reminding residents “Don’t dump leaves and trash in storm drains-they go straight to our lakes!” We also appreciate the Fairmont Public Works Department disposing of the trash we deposit in the parking lots.

Kayak Rentals

Our Kayak Rentals are a way to provide a community service, and allow people another way access to our lakes. In 2025 we had 125 rentals, which is an 8% increase over 2024.

The Shell Station at Albion and Lair Road serves as the base for our rentals. We appreciate their support!

Native Vegetation

This year’s cleanup occurred on Amber Lake. We appreciated the help provided by the Fairmont Fire Department, and the Dive Team boat. The Boat House also provided their work pontoon for our use. Fish Stocking
& Carp Control

As a way to reduce the carp population, we stocked over $5,000 of Bluegills. A portion of this was financially supported by a contribution from Martin Soil and Water Conservation District.

We have also applied for funding to support the seining of Carp and other rough fish. This is a $20,000 expense, which is also partially funded by Martin Soil and Water Conservation District.

Ongoing Lakes Advocacy

As a part of the Fairmont Lakes Foundation ongoing advocacy for our lakes, a few of the other activities our members have been involved in include:

  • Voiced our support to Fairmont City Council for no till and cover crops as a part of Farm Leases of City owned land.
  • Committee member for the Blue Earth River Watershed “One Watershed One Plan”
  • Member of City sponsored Lakes Committee
  • Pheasants Forever Youth Conservation Day
